On Your First Visit

On your first visit you may schedule a new patient appointment or a consultation. Your health issues and goals can be discussed with the doctor. This is often helpful in determining if you are a good candidate for chiropractic care.

When you arrive for your first visit you can expect to be greeted by our receptionist and our office manager, who will assist you with the processing of paperwork and insurance information.

Paperwork and Insurance Information

You will be asked to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire. It is also helpful to bring with you any previous X-ray films or MRI reports you may have. This provides Dr. Woods with important information for your course of treatment.

For your convenience, the initial visit forms are available for download on this site. Fill them out prior to your consultation or first appointment and bring them in with you, along with your insurance card to save a little time. If you are interested in the Bax Aura BioVeda Wellness system, then you will also be given patient history forms to complete concerning allergies, smoking habits and stress.

Vital signs and initial scans

Next, the chiropractic assistant will take you to a private room where your vital signs will be taken and any initial scans the doctor advises will be performed (see the section on Myovision for details). Once this information is gathered, Dr. Woods will consult with you on the findings. You may have X-rays taken as well, if determined necessary by the doctor.

Therapy and Treatment

We have private exam rooms

While your x-rays are processed, Dr. Woods may have you experience muscle stimulation to prepare your muscles prior to your adjustment. We also employ decompression therapy (traction), ultrasound therapy, low level laser therapy, myofascial release techniques, trigger point therapy, massage and assisted stretching all applied by certified, licensed professionals to prepare you for your adjustments. All modalities will be thoroughly explained to you and we encourage your questions at any visit.

In the event that X-rays are determined to be necessary, your X-rays will be reviewed with you prior to your adjustment. Dr. Woods will explain her findings in detail and discuss your treatment plan with you. Next you will proceed to the adjustment room, where the chiropractic adjustments will take place.

After your adjustment, Dr. Woods may give you post adjustment instructions: exercises to do at home, nutritional supplement suggestions, topical analgesic (cream) applications, suggestions for follow-up visits.

Some form of treatment is always performed at the initial visit. This may or may not include an adjustment. If after the exam it is determined that the patient should be referred to another facility for care, the appointment is made by the front desk staff for the patient.

An initial consultation takes approximately 15 minutes. Allow approximately one hour for your initial appointment. Downloading the forms and filling out the paperwork prior to your visit will help to save you time.

Your Second Visit

At your second visit, if you haven’t had an opportunity to fill out the forms available on our website for downloading, you will have a few more forms to fill out regarding pain level and assessment. You may have another set of more in depth scans depending on your situation.

Prior to your adjustment, you may see the chiropractic assistant for preparatory modalities: muscle stimulation, decompression therapy, etc. Of course, you will be seen by Dr. Woods for your adjustment. She will also ask you some questions about how you felt following your initial appointment and customize a care plan for future visits. She will be eager to answer any questions you may have about your chiropractic care plan.

Depending on your “presenting complaint” you may receive any of the following therapies: Spinal Decompression, Muscle Stimulation, Ultrasound, Low Level Laser Therapy, Biofeedback, V-Force Total Body Vibration, Chiropractic adjustment of the spine or extremities, and massage. You will have home rehab stretches and exercises tailored to your injury, which will be printed and presented to you on your 3rd visit.
